Our Mission

Women in Computer Science (WiCS) at UIC is a student organization that strives to provide a support network compromising of mentors and peers and acts as a social, technical, and networking community. We help provide resources and opportunities to all students to help broaden their careers within the tech industry.

WiCS Founded

UIC students attend the Grace Hopper Conference at Minneapolis. graduate student Jillian Aurisano establishes WiCS following sessions at GHC.

2015

Meeting Space

WiCS Lounge is created as a new student gathering center.

2018

Gaining Popularity in CS Lounge

Members increase with GBMs at the CS Lounge.

2019

Growing Executive Board

Executive Board consists of 7 officers.

2020

Big Events

Hosted first Virtual Scavenger Hunt and Inside Scoop during the COVID era.

2022

The Origins of SparkHacks

Idea of a WiCS Hackathon becomes the first iteration of SparkHacks 2023.
